Autovalves Prove the Smart Answer for Glasgow College

When a Glasgow Technical College approached AES to upgrade their wood dust extraction system, the specification was to increase the size of the fan and filter unit to ensure adequate flowrate to all of the machinery.  Following a site survey we found that extraction was being provided to the majority of the machines even when they were not in use.

Our solution was not to increase the size of the extraction unit but instead to fit automatic valves on the extract duct at each machine, with the operation of the valve connected to the start circuit of the machine.  In addition, we fitted an inverter drive to the fan so that the fan speed increases according to demand i.e. as more machinery is operated, the extraction rate increases.

The College were delighted with the solution as the resulting system is quieter and more energy efficient that the original design and provides more effective extraction at a fraction of the price of a new extractor!
